OpenStudy (anonymous):

When a carbon atom is in its ground state, how many electrons does it have in its outermost shell?

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

Note carbon has 6 electrons, in the first shell it can have 2, and then the next shell can hold 8. I think for now you may note it as such (number of electrons to fill each shell, starting with the first): 2 8 8 18 18 32 32
