Brain Teaser! Choose the correct option for Pepsin a) Splits proteins at pH of about 3 b) Splits Carbohydrates at about pH 2 c) Splits protein into peptones at pH 7 d) Changes protein into amino acids at pH 2
Is it a abhi ?
I really have to go through my nutrition lesson now !
Provide reason too ;)
Instead I'll cut off other points ?
Okay..you can do that
okai wait so is the answer correct ?
I'll not disclose that right now
okai okai then !
My argument Pepsin is activated by pepsinogen. So pepsinogen is activated by HCl, that is inside the stomach ! Therefore the pH should be an acidic pH. Pepsin acts on proteins breaking them in to smaller molecules.
Pepsinogen is activated by HCl into Pepsin, right and it breaks proteins. See option 4
sorry there was an error in what I wrote ! Pepsin converts pepsin in to peptones not to amino acids right ?
Yes! haha..you got it..
there's another error in what i wrote it should be proteins to peptones !
Pepsin is a endopeptidase, strongest infact. It cleaves inner bonds of polypeptides to make smaller proteones, proteases and peptides.
Enzymes like carboxypeptidase and Aminopeptidase are exopeptidase and convert polypeptides into amino acids.
What about tripsin ? It also converts small polypetides into amino acids right ?
And chemotripsin converts large polypeptides in to amino acids right ?
No, Trypsin and Chymotrypsin convert large peptides into smaller peptides.
Really? Why do I remember that as what I wrote just now ! ? I should really go through this ! Whaaaiiii is this happening to me ! After the lesson i only touched once ! Now i can't remember
Haha...go brush up :)
I guess brush up isn't enough ! -_- I have to pour the whole thing in this time !
Since u are a doctor tell me how i can increase my brain power and memory !
ohkai ! Thanks !
Pepsin is an enzyme. As we know, an enzyme breaks down stuff into simpler substances. And we also know that the pH of pepsin is 2. Another good point is that since pepsin is an enzyme, it breaks down stuff. Its splits protiens....so our best answer has to also be acidic, ranking from the pH 1 to 7. Final answer: d) Changes protein into amino acids at pH 2
@Abhisar
@Ryuga The 4th option is wrong because pepsin doesn't split proteins to amino acids, it splits proteins to peptones which are smaller protein molecules,
And acidic pH is never 7 , 7 is for neutral pH ! Since HCl is highly acidic we can take the pH between 2 to 3
@Ryuga nice copy off my friends post in brainly.com
OMG the exact one ! Damn how did u find it @MedicalDoctor ?
Because my friend pointed it out lol.
He told me that he guarantees that 100% that if I put that in the search bar I would find it.
The other thing is that when he posted he didn't explain it after being challenged.
oh lol , yeah exactly... But I replied to it after he/she went offline !
True but me and my friend made a bet lol so we looked it up.
Desperate to get a medal !
I guess lol.
Why do people do this, cheating themselves !
No kidding it is because they want to feel smarter.
Ok I just looked and every answer basically so far on OS for him has been copied and pasted.
REALLY ?????????????????????????????????????? No way ?
Yup I went and commented the web addresses for them on a few more too he is not going to be happy but still he has fan testimonials and they don't know that it wasn't his work.
oh no comments on that........
Not sure what to say about that lol
He just made me speechless
Is he on brainly too ? How did he find the exact same question otherwise?
It is very annoying when people have to use other people's work and plagiarize by the way to get a medal on OS.
No he probably did what I did and searched it online. The only difference is that I searched his answer and he searched the question.
Wow @Abhisar you must have been on OS for a while now.
3000 medals is not a small accomplishment.
Do you work as a doctor as well?
I am soo dumb I didn't know that anyone could search the exact question -_-
No your not it just proves that you don't cheat.
He is ! He is an intern ! Obviously He is ABHISAR THE GREAT NAH !
Well I have to go I have a patient in the ER now but it has been pretty quiet. Anyways nice talking with you that is cool Abhisar I wish you luck.
So u are a doctor too ? Oh cool !
I hope that you enjoy working as a doctor in the medical field it is in my opinion a very great job to have.
Yes @Rushwr
But I have to go bye!
I am not a doctor I am still a high schooler
oka bye bye
i've never heard the term "peptone" before, oligopeptides is what i've used. coool.
it's D :D as I've read that pH of pepsin is 2 :P hehe
