For my English class I am reading Ender's Game and have finished. I now need to write an essay using the following prompt. Based on your research, identify and analyze a human rights issue in your novel and show how it relates to real-life issues and affects people within the United States and one other country. I am having a hard time developing a thesis statement. If anyone can help thank you in advance.
Well what is one issue that you know of in the book? There is overpopulation for one
The real life issue in Ender's Game is under age working
Which is why they are only allowed to have like 2 or 3 kids in the book.
over population isn't a human rights issue..
Preventing everyone from having kids is though
I chose dehumanization as my human rights issue.
The main problem in Ender's Game is how they used a child to do their job... barely a teen and had to do all that. That's what I did in that class and I got a perfect score.
This is what I have so far could someone help me fix it up. In the novel Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card the main human rights issue is dehumanization, dehumanization is as much in the novel as it is in the real world from dehumanizing your enemy to abortion to child brides dehumanization is everywhere.
I got a perfect score for mine too, the whole point of the essay is that there are multiple issues. Whether the method of lowering population is moral or not, it is an issue. If you believe it is then thats the point of an essay, making it persuasive if you want. Anyway, dehumanizing is a pretty good choice!!! Not only are kids working over age, its more than that. They are put in a military to fight. In a way that is dehumanizing. So throughout the essay you would point out why and bring examples. As for your thesis, it could be along the lines of,"I believe that dehumanization in the Enders Game is a humans right issue."
You need to relate it to the novel
Thats good so far! You might want to fix up the last part of that sentence though.
Thank you guys
Well its good if she has uses elements of the real world as long as you don't stray too far from the book.
No problem!
How is this? In the novel Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card the main human rights issue is dehumanization, Ender and Valentine dehumanize their enemy much like soldiers do now, the government dehumanizes children and only sees them as tools at their disposal much like people in the real world with abortion, the government in the novel decides how many children you can have what religion you are they take away your basic right to decide things for yourself much like adults do to the child brides in South Sudan.
