the germans would have been able to rebuild into a large power again

Maybe democracy could have taken hold in Germany. Hitler would not have had a popular issue to associate himself with. Perhaps other countries would have been more interested in helping to rebuild Europe instead of looking to lick old wounds.
It's easy to see both WWs as Germany's fault. But really, all the hatred and chauvinist thinking in all European/world governments came to a head in WWI they took a break and did it again in WWII. Everybody had to work the whole need for empire out of their systems.
