why can't 11 yr olds can't vote

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The 26th amendment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why did they make this

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

11 year olds are not responsible

OpenStudy (anonymous):

some are

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not necessarily that but it does deal a great with that the brains hasnt devoloped that much reasoning to understand the complexity of an election

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

true. but you are not a legal adult until the age of 18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It was 21 but it was lowered to 18 during WWII

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In the 1970 case Oregon v. Mitchell, a divided U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Congress had the right to regulate the minimum age in federal elections, but not at the state and local level.

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

but they also changed the age to drink from 18 to 21

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not just 11yr olds but everyone under 18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nixon passed it in March 1971

OpenStudy (dr.gray):

you have to be 18 or older to vote

OpenStudy (anonymous):

besides baby's evry one should vote

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"If your old enough to fight in war. your old enough to vote" Was the main argument in the case.

OpenStudy (dr.gray):

it's the law and if you break it you will go to prison

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why cant we all fight in a war

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So if you would want to bring that to a local congressmans attention Im sure the US would love to have 10-11 year olds to join the military but this does not sound good to responisible parents which is probably why its not gonna go much lower

OpenStudy (dr.gray):

were i live you get you permit at 18 and your license at 19

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why cant i fight in a war ( my birthdays today and im 11)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As soon as your ready to get shot at for your country I would definitely say you have the right to vote on who runs it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im ready

OpenStudy (dr.gray):

you got 7 years till you can vote

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We can get our permits at 14 1/2 here and license at 16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why im ready for war

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

where I live, if you are under the age of 18, you must have your parents permission before you can get a permit and/or license

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

they have to sign a paper

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Don't look too much towards growing up. Im 18 and I already got Jury duty papers through the mail. But if you are looking towards military . Start training early and talk to a recruiter when you get to High school. They can start off a great future

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok -_-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I signed up to vote when i got my license
