I need help how do I get rid of acne and acne scars?

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Is this a question for school? Or personal?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

personal

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Either way there are creams that can be used to help get rid of the scars. The best way to get rid of acne is to use a face cloth and wash your face multiple times a day. If this does not work there are also creams that will help with that as well.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay such as what kind of creams are there

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Besides for acne many people think it is caused by having too much oil production on your face but that is not the case. The oils get blocked up because skin is not really flaking off fast enough.

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Ok well for the scarring many of my patient use Clean&Clear advantage mark treatment cream.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay I use clean and clear I use it but still nothing doset happen but I will try that

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

The most common types of medicines that doctors use to treat acne include: Benzoyl peroxide, such as Brevoxyl or Triaz.

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

So to understand what you are saying the clean and clear didn't work?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well I haven't used the cream before but the one I use is Clean and clear deep action exfoliating scrub

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

If you are really having a lot of trouble with it I recommend talking with your PCP or primary care physician. He can prescribe you face creams that will help such as Tretinoin Cream, 0.05%.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i had heard that drinking 8 cups of water works i do that everyday or sometimes more and still dosent work so do u think drinking ice water may work

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Well for water to work you will need a lot of it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I also use B-12 and it helps sometimes with my acne

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

For instance 1 to 2 gallons of water will help. Depending on the amount of vitamin B-12 you are taking it could actually be making it worse.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i take it in the morning

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Cyanocobalamin is the form of B12 found in supplements. It is used in supplements because it is easy to make, and the body can easily convert it into the methylcobalamin and 5-deoxyadenosyl cobalamin it actually uses in enzymes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Ok how much daily?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i also heard that putting lemon juice helps your face does it?

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Yes in a way it does. Lemon juice does have some acne fighting qualities.

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

The acid in lemon juice has mild astringent qualities. The astringents work by constricting the body tissues and pushing the oil out of your skin.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so is it safe to use

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

The effects of lemon juice are intensified by exposure to the UV-A rays of the sun.

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

The way this works is it actually kills the bacteria that causes the acne in the first place.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and another thing to I also get a ice cube and massage my face with the ice cube it helps sometimes

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

People who have dark brown or black skin should use lemon juice, and all other skin treatments, with caution.

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

I am actually not sure about the ice cube I haven't heard of that before.

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

But a dermatologist I know says that it is a good treatment but make sure as to not put ice directly on the skin.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay and why is that not to?

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

I would recommend that if you are going to do this wrap the ice in a cloth and put it directly on the pimple. Do NOT hold there for longer than a min.

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Applying ice directly to the skin can cause harm to the skin itself.

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

However the only way that you could put a ice cube directly on the skin is if it is in constant motion.

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

One of two things could happen 1) necrosis of the skin (aka frostbite) and 2) reactive hyperemia. Reactive hyperemia is a phenomenon where blood flow will actually increase after intense icing/occlusion of a blood vessel.

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Does this help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Ok good!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can putting peroxide help

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

I would never use peroxide it kills any bacteria good and bad.

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

It will actually kill off the bacteria that works to rid your body of the acne.

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Hydrogen Peroxide will dry out the skin which will cause a temporary solution but will hurt your problem more than help it in the long run.

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

If you need a temporary and quick acting solution than you may use this but I would not recommend it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i had heard that putting honey on your face helps is that true

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Well honey is naturally antiseptic so it may help however I am not 100% positive.

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Honey is an humectant, which means it helps keep your skin moisturized but again for acne I am not sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay does egg whites help?

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

I am not sure but this website might help to answer your question I also have to go. http://www.livestrong.com/article/74607-use-egg-whites-treat-acne/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks so much for your help i will tell you the results next week

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Ok hopefully I have provided enough tools to help and if these simple remedies don't work I would recommend that you ask you primary physician.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Have a great day bye!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks you too bye
