MsBrains (ms-brains):

Can some please help me with a few hard questions that I don't understand!? I will medal!

MsBrains (ms-brains):

MsBrains (ms-brains):

I know he made an error, but I cannot figure out where.

OpenStudy (benlindquist):

Have you worked the problem out?

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Yes, it's x= -5

OpenStudy (benlindquist):

aren't you suppose to add like terms?

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Are you? I didn't know. ;-; When I solved it that's what I got...

OpenStudy (benlindquist):

I'm thinking your supposed to

OpenStudy (curiousquestions):

Take the steps you made to get -5 and compare them tot he steps given.

OpenStudy (andrewherpeche):

he made mistake the first time

OpenStudy (benlindquist):

seriously, don't give answers

OpenStudy (andrewherpeche):

its faster for her

OpenStudy (curiousquestions):

Please don't give direct answers!!! It is a violation of the OpenStudy Code of Conduct!

OpenStudy (benlindquist):

so, don't give out answers its useless

MsBrains (ms-brains):

I'm sorry, but I don't get it. How did he make a mistake in the first part??

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Here is how I solved it.

OpenStudy (benlindquist):

i thought u only can add like terms no like 4x + 4

OpenStudy (andrewherpeche):

this one 6X+4=2X-8

OpenStudy (andrewherpeche):

that's where

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Oh! Okay, in step one the student wrote: 6x+4=2x-8 When, in reality if you want to solve this properly, You write: 6x+4=2x-16 Correct?

OpenStudy (andrewherpeche):

yes

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Are you sure @andrewherpeche I thought it would have been C. He made an error in step three...?

OpenStudy (andrewherpeche):

that would mean he didn't make a mistake untell then and that's not true

OpenStudy (igreen):

You're correct.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Now compare your steps to the steps given in the question. See what they did wrong and choose your answer accordingly.

MsBrains (ms-brains):

B.The student made an error in step 1 is correct?

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yep!

OpenStudy (igreen):

He only multiplied 2 to 'x' and not -8.

OpenStudy (andrewherpeche):

told you so

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Thank you both for the help. :)
