Martha, Brett, and Mike are competing in a cooking competition. They all used different amounts of oil from a can containing 8 gallons of oil. •Martha used 17% of the total oil in the can. •Brett used 0.18 of the total oil in the can. •Mike used 0.7 gallon of the total oil in the can. Who used the greatest amount of oil from the can? Show your work and explain your answer in words.
The 3 guys used different methods for measuring the amounts of oil used. To answer this question, you'll need to convert these different types of measurement into ONE type. Can you do that? We want to compare apples to apples to apples, not apples to grapefruit (and so on).
idk
Make 17% a decimal, 0.17. 0.17 x 8 = 1.36. 0.18 x 8 = 1.44. 0.7 x 8 = 5.6. So Mike used the most, to check 5.6 + 1.44 + 1.36 = 8.4, round it and you get 8.
What's the difference between 13% and 0.13?
nothing, am I right?
What fraction of the total 8 gallons is 0.7 gallon from an 8.0 gallon can?
0.13 and 13% are certainly related, but are not the same. Think. What's the difference between them? Read Study312 's comments.
the desimol
decimal*
Please convert 26% to a decimal fraction. Note the spelling: decimal (not desimol). ;)
yea my bad lol, it would be .26
convert 0.7 gallon over 8.0 gallons to a ratio and then the ratio to a decimal fraction.
O.o
0.7 / 8.0 is the ratio. Convert that to a decimal fraction, please.
@Juliusmattos12 : I need your involvement if I'm to help you. Convert 0.7 / 8.0 into the corresponding decimal fraction.
All you have to do here is to divide.
That's kinda confusing mathmale
0.7 ÷ 8 = ?
You show me, please, and explain why you think my question is "confusing." Thx.
