What are some differences in JROTC 100 years ago versus today?

When JROTC started, it was not as highly funded. Due to the wars and things going on during the time of its founding, it was primarily a recruitment tool (despite what others may say).

Currently, unlike back then, there are more competitions, community events, and scholarships that go along with doing JROTC. There are Armed Drill, Unarmed Drill, Academics, Athletics, Orienteering, and Color Guard.

We focus a lot on community service and being role models to the citizens around us.

It is also more widely recognized. We still do have issues with veterans thinking we just run around playing soldier and such.
