What effect did World War I have on artists' approach to their work? The war had little, or no, effect on artists. Artists altered, questioned, or simply abandoned reality in their works. Art began to imitate the realistic, religious styles of the Renaissance. Many artists returned to the classical styles of ancient Rome and Greece.
