you can figure how many total tiles there are since 20 blue are 40% of the whole thing 20 'is' 40% 'of' a number 20 = (40/100)*X X = (100*20)/40 = 50 20 is 40% of 50, so there are 50 total tiles

if 20 are blue, leaves 30 left the remaining white and red tiles are equal in number, half of that remaining 30, or 15red and 15 white

so answer is 15 red tiles used to make the pattern
