Okay, we need to isolate x. Let me show you an example problem: 2x - 8 = 24 First we need to add 8 to both sides to cancel out the -8 2x - 8 + 8 = 24 + 8 2x = 32 Now, divide by 2 to cancel out 2* 2x/2 = 32/2 x = 16
