OpenStudy (-welp-):

How did they get 8?

OpenStudy (-welp-):

\[32^{\frac{ 3 }{ 5 }}\]

OpenStudy (-welp-):

My bad, I forgot to put =8 at the end

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They cubed 32 and then took the 5th root

OpenStudy (md152727):

32 cubed: 32768 5th root of it: 8, Yep

OpenStudy (blacksteel):

A denominator in an exponent means to take that root of the base number, while a numerator means to raise it to that power. In other words, \[x^\frac{ a }{ b } = (\sqrt[b]{x})^a\] In this case, \[\sqrt[5]{32} = 2\] so \[32^\frac{ 3 }{ 5 } = 2^3 = 8\]

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

32 = 2^5
