When two glucose (C6H12O6) molecules are combined to form a molecule of maltose (C12H22O11), the formula of the maltose molecule is not C12H24O12 because a) Hydrolysis takes place b) Dehydration synthesis takes place c) Transpiration takes place d) Water is added

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it's "b" because in dehydration synthesis, large organic molecules are built up from smaller building blocks with the release of water. When two glucose molecules are linked to form maltose but no. of hydrogen atom is not 24 and no. of oxygen atom is not 12 because a H atom is removed from one glucose and a hydroxyl OH is removed from the other glucose. that's why formula of maltose is C12H22O11 instead of C12H24O12.
