When two glucose molecules are linked to form maltose but no. of hydrogen atom is not 24 and no. of oxygen atom is not 12 because a H atom is removed from one glucose and a hydroxyl OH is removed from the other glucose. that's why formula of maltose is C12H22O11 instead of C12H24O12.
