PLZ HELP ME, WILL MEDAL YOU

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

For #1. I think it is 13.44 am I right for #1 and plz help me with the other ones.

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

@Qwertty123 @TheSmartOne @inkyvoyd @pooja195 @SolomonZelman @freckles

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Where is your work for #1 ?

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

oh i will type it down right now @TheSmartOne

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

12.50*0.075=0.9375

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

0.9375 is 0.94 rounded

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

then 12.50+0.94=13.44

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

@TheSmartOne I showed my work

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

good job :) now do the same for #2 this time you just multiply 15% by 240 and then add whatever you get to 240

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

ohhh

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

so $240.00*0.15=36

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

an easier way would be: (240 x 0.15) + 240 factor out 240 240 ( 0.15 + 1) 240 (1.15) So if you just did 240*1.15 you would get the answer more quickly :P

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

that way only works if we are adding tax to it, or bringing the price up if we were doing a discount then it would look like: 240 - (240 * 0.15) 240 (1 - 0.15) 240 * 0.85

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

ohhh, ok so 240*1.15=276

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

and your way was basically: 240 + 36 = 276 and you got the ame answer! :D

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

same*

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

and 240*0.85=204

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

cool!

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

Do I do the same thing for #3?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

nope, #3 has to do with a discount so we would have to do the second example I posted which was about subtracting instead of adding

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

oh ok...

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

1,400 - 0.35 = 1399.65 ...like that?

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

oh wait

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

1,400 (1,400 * 0.35) like that?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

nooooooo

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

oh, was i right the first time?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

nope, read what I wrote above carefully

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

oh you said if we were doing a discount it would look like that.

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

On my question it says what is the discounted price of the tv?

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

@TheSmartOne ?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

you didn't do it exactly how I said it would look like

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

\(\color{blue}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @TheSmartOne that way only works if we are adding tax to it, or bringing the price up if we were doing a discount then it would look like: 240 - (240 * 0.15) 240 (1 - 0.15) 240 * 0.85 \(\color{blue}{\text{End of Quote}}\)

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

I am confused for this one

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

1400 * 0.35 = ?

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

= 490

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

1400 - 490 = ?

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

= 910

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

oh, my answer is 910

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

exactly, and the faster way of doing this would have been 1 - 0.35 = 0.65 1400 * 0.65 To see how we got this, consider this: 1400 - (1400 * 3.5) = 1400 ( 1 - 0.35) = 1400* ( 0.65)

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

I THINK I understand

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

#4?

OpenStudy (rainbow_rocks03):

I will open a new board

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

fine with me :P
