Does anyone know how you calculate the range of a quartic function? The teachers for the online class I am taking are precisely no help, and this is not even slightly covered in the unit this question is from.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it goes from the lowest point on the curve up to infinity if the leading coefficient is positive

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Are you allowed to use a calculator?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, definitely allowed to use a calculator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay did you try using google?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is the lazy way out xD

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what kind of calculator do you have @TiffanyLian if you have a TI83 or TI84, then you can graph the function and use the min feature to find the minimum, which will help you find the lowest possible y value. The range will be the set of y values either equal to the lowest y value, or larger than that y value. this video has a good example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g48bQ5QCYjc
