Bill and Ron build towers using blocks. The expression 4b + 2 represents the number of blocks Bill uses. The expression 8b – 5 represents the number of blocks Ron uses.

Complete the expression to represent the total number of blocks Bill and Ron use.

Is it 12b-(-3)?

4b combines with 8b to get 12b

2 combines with -5 to get -3

so you should have 12b + (-3) which is equivalent to 12b - 3
