I need help understanding this question. If someone just wants to talk it over with me I would love that! Research liberal and conservative philosophies in American politics. Outline the general ideological beliefs of the two philosophies. Explain which of the American political parties support each ideology. Finally, explain how each set of beliefs influence economic policies, social welfare policies, and human rights practices.

OpenStudy (hanamalik):

Liberal & conservative are just as they sound. Conservative is more reserved on their opinions. Liberal is kinda more open minded I think you could say.

OpenStudy (hanamalik):

I know that's not much help, but it's a starting point.

OpenStudy (katie_rogers101):

Thank you. That is the basis of the lesson but that is a valid point :) @HanaMalik

I mean I've seen this chart before I mostly need help with the examples

OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

Generally, conservatives are not as quick to change as liberals. That is true of any country. And the definitions can change based on events. Fore example, the Republican Party began as an anti slavery party. The Conservative Democrats wanted to keep slavery. They didn't want to change. Even after the civil war, Democrats were the ones who wanted to keep minorities in their place and segregated. Meanwhile, during the late 1800s and the 1900s, the Republicans became the favorites of bankers and rich people. If you have a lot of business interests, you generally want things to stay the same. During these times the question of the size of government has been mixed in. The Conservative movement has become the ones who support a limited government. That's why the Tea Party groups associate with conservatives. They don't like the government being involved in an ever bigger part of our lives. Generally, Liberals, like the idea of the government doing more to make life fair compared to others. They support more taxes to pay for more programs to do things for people who used to do things for themselves. That's a rough outline. There are other factors but I've already written a lot.
