OpenStudy (miss.rose):

I need help with answering 5 pre-algebra questions and I need them looked over. I will fan and medal. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Sure lets see what you got ☻

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

It's about Slope as a Rate. Are you familiar with that topic?

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Sort of I'll help best I can

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

Okay. Great! Let me get the questions. Be right back.

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

Okay. Here is the first question:

OpenStudy (decarr432):

From looking at the graph what do you know?

OpenStudy (decarr432):

@Miss.Rose

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

I am here. I was just looking at the graph. I see that the numbers or in this case the water is decreasing. I am not sure I how am supposed to solve for the answer. That is what I really need help with.

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Okay looking at the graph is simple From what we can see the volume of point 1,9 is 9 what is the volume for 3,8?

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Point (1,9) and (3,8)

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

8?

OpenStudy (decarr432):

yes if you noticed I picked a point that went down by 1 but it is a two hour difference so what do you think the answer to the question is

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

I am not really sure. I need a little more help.

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Okay if we look at the points i mentioned again

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

@mathmale

OpenStudy (decarr432):

(1,9) is at hour 1 but (3,8) is hour 3 okay now look at hour 2 what would the point be placed?

OpenStudy (decarr432):

It's at (2,8.5) which means in the matter of an hour we lost how much?

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

2.5?

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Close think how much did we lose from nine to 8.5?

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

.5

OpenStudy (decarr432):

There is a method to my madness lol

OpenStudy (decarr432):

and yes the answer is .5

OpenStudy (decarr432):

another way to figure this out is how much of a rise over run did you move?

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

Thank you. Are you ready for the next question?

OpenStudy (decarr432):

yep

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

Okay. Here is the next question:

OpenStudy (decarr432):

okay what is the rise over run for this problem? do you know

OpenStudy (mathmale):

This problem is quite simiilar to the previous one, in that you are given a graph, and it's readily apparent that the volume of the water in the back pack is decreasing with time. Use what you learned in the previous problem, from Decarr432, to calculate the slope, or "rise over run." Note that the slope will be and must be negative because the function is clearly decreasing.

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Math you always know how to put it in good words i'm not that wordy haha

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

Okay, so it is either A or D. Is it A?

OpenStudy (decarr432):

The answer is not A

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Don't you want to learn how to solve this tho?

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

Yes, I do.

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Okay to get from the point (1,2) to (1,1.5) you must go down how much?

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

.5

OpenStudy (decarr432):

yes but its -.5 that will be our rise in -.5/? now how many to the right must you travel use whole numbers this time

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

3?

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Close if we go from 1 to 3 how many jumps you have to make?

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

2

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Correct so our rise over run is -.5/2 which means we lose how much an hour?

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

0.25?

OpenStudy (decarr432):

no is we agreed that we are loosing by -.5/4 which would come out to be .25 every half hour which would make use lose how much an hour?

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

.50

OpenStudy (decarr432):

so you answer is?

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

D?

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

wait. your confusing me. is it D or B?

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Well ignore those last ones

OpenStudy (decarr432):

we lost half a L in 2 hours which means we lose .25 every half hour making out the answer to be B because .5 times 4 is 2

OpenStudy (decarr432):

sorry my mind went stupid for a second

OpenStudy (decarr432):

sorry for the confusion lol

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Next?

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

Okay. So this one is broken up into 2 parts.

OpenStudy (decarr432):

What does a proportional relationship mean to you?

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

I didn't know what it meant so I looked it up: A proportional relationship between two quantities is one in which the two quantities vary directly with one and other. If one item is doubled, the other, related item is also doubled

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Yeah thats right lol now what do you think that means?

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

I don't know...

OpenStudy (decarr432):

lets say we buy 5 apples for 2.00$ in total then we buy 10 apples what happens to how much we paid for it? Remember if we double how much we buy we have to double how much we pay <---- Hint hint

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

Okay.

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

I still don't get how that is supposed to help with this question.

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Think you understand it what is done to one side has to be done to the other

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

Yes. But what does that have to do with the question?

OpenStudy (decarr432):

If we move one way we have to move the same for the other side

OpenStudy (decarr432):

so if you take point 1,1 and keep it proportional, lets add one to the x what must we do to the y?

OpenStudy (decarr432):

well double*

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

We have to add 1

OpenStudy (decarr432):

so if we keep doubling one side we follow on the other and so on and so forth

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

Okay. So that answer is D?

OpenStudy (decarr432):

I do think so

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

5th and final question:

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Okay so right off the bad what do you notice? I notice 2 answer are almost the exact same hmm

OpenStudy (decarr432):

bat* not bad

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

So... that is the answer?

OpenStudy (decarr432):

no there kind of trick answers the most correct I see is a because of the doubling you must do but I'm not sure for this one

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Its A or D

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

I am going to go with D. I am going to have my teacher grade this and tell what the correct answer is. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!!!

OpenStudy (decarr432):

No problem if there are any incorrect we can give this another shot :)

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

The answer was.... D. But I got the 4th one wrong. But that is okay. I still got a pretty good grade. I might need your help in a little bit, will you be logged on?
