In Europe, thatch roofs on homes were once very common but are rare in modern times. There are still craftspeople that specialize in the profession. Why would people use thatch to build homes? Thatch is a good insulator and is widely available. Thatch is safer than other materials if there is a fire. Thatch smells good and lets in sunlight. Thatch is the longest lasting building material.
