OpenStudy (anonymous):

if local temperature changes in favor of greater oxygen levels how would the population of small fish species and the wadding bird change in response to the new oxygen level

Options?

OpenStudy (caseysorensen):

In order for more oxygen to dissolve into water, the temperature would have to decrease. How the population of fish changes in accordance with this depends on the species. However using Hans otto Portner's oxygen limitation and thermal tolerance theory, as the temperature declines from the optimum, the organism will be presented with a number of new physiological challenges. Organisms will drive metabolism higher in an attempt to deal with the colder conditions, the organism may enter anaerobiosis (despite the increases oxygen) leading eventually to molecular denaturation. Long-term exposure to a non-adapted species will have implications with growth, specific dynamic action, behaviour, immune capacity and reproduction.
