Find the slope of the line segment shown. A) - 1 - 2 B) -1 C) 1 - 2 D) 1 i choose D because the rise over run is 5/5 which would equal 1 but the rise started in the negative part so would that mean my answer should be -5/5 which would be -1 http://www.usatestprep.com/modules/gallery/files/0/62/62.png @mathmale @neonumbrella5115 @study312

OpenStudy (neonumbrella5115):

You are almost there. The sign does not depend on the place the line started by the point of the line. If a line "points" toward the first quadrant:|dw:1452553797737:dw| Like this one, it's slope would be positive. If a line "points" toward the third quadrant, it's slope would be negative. |dw:1452553862312:dw| With this information, does that change your answer?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Heart: You have correctly identified the slope, 5/5 = 1, from the given diagram. Nice work.
