they are saying the first term (called \(a_1\)) is 2 so you should expect the first number to be 2 (and all of the choices have a 2) the second line says: to get the next number, add 5 to the previous number. so if you start with 2 what do you think the next number is ?

yes, 2+5 is 7 now that you know 7, and you use the same rule (i.e. add 5) what is the next number after 7
