I got -2 and 1 as my answers but Im not sure why 1 isn't included in the answer

OpenStudy (mathmale):

These 3 terms have diffrerent denominators. What do you have to do to add fractions with diff. denoms.? How would you add 1/3 to 1/7 and then that sum to 1/21?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have done that part, I just don't know why 1 isn't included in the answer

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Do this, please: replace x in the original equation with 1. Show your work. Tell me what you observe. Does your result answer your question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3/0 is a non real answer, is that why?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Sorry, but I have to disagree with your statement, "3/0 is a non real answer, is that why?" can you think of a better word to describe 3/0?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can't divide by 0?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Right. Div by zero is undefined. That is why x=1 is NOT a solution here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I see, Thank you!

OpenStudy (mathmale):

My pleasure! Always check work when it's possible for you to do so yourself.
