Well, my perspective could be best summed up as "Isolationism. It's a bad idea. Often leads to getting conquered by other nations because we're throwing sticks at their tanks." 

For engagement, it'd be "Engagement is a good idea. That way we can get on the same level as them rather than constantly stand around not knowing what's going on."
