OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

This is for an intro. to oceanography class. Its a discussion assignment. I'm looking for people to read it over and give their opinions. Thank you.

OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

I was allowed to pick anything from the first chapter. I went with Scientific Method.

OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

I will be adding a video and pictures. And possible an example.

OpenStudy (frostbite):

Overall looks like a really good intro, and what you say can obviously been applied to many different sciences. I'll be sure to read it one more time, but this kinda hit me: "Without the formal method of determining questions and answers to find the \(truth\). We wouldn’t have science or the knowledge we have today. " Remember the "method" has been changing a lot think for example about logic positivism and critical rationalism with among other Poppers attempt to show among other that freud's psychoanalytic theory. Another thing is also the experimentalists approach vs theorists approach. Critical rationalism is finding love in the experimental approach due to its easy conditions for experimenting. Furthermore the absolute "truth" can not be found according to some ideas.

OpenStudy (frostbite):

But in general you are: the purpose of all sciences: to formulate general "truths" (special laws) for the purpose of explanation and prediction.

OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

Okay. So your saying I should rephrase it and remove the word "truth"?

OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

I think you misread what I said above. This is a discussion assignment for my Introduction to Oceanography course. Not an introduction to something like a paper.

OpenStudy (frostbite):

I do think I was reading it, but it very much generality seems.... instead of also showing the uniqueness to Oceanography. What makes the scientific method so important oceanography and different from all other sciences?

OpenStudy (destinyyyy):
