Max and Maggie have to clean the house. It takes Max 12 hours to clean the house, while Maggie can complete the task in 4 hours. Their sister says that it will take 3 hours to complete if they work together. Explain each step in solving this equation, and determine if the sister is correct or not.

I know that, when solving an equation, I can do whatever I like to that equation as long as I do the same thing to both sides of the equation. On the left-hand side of this particular equation, I have an x2, and I need a plain x. To turn an x2 into an x, I can take the square root of each side of the equation: sqrt(x) = ± sqrt(4) x = ± 2 Then the solution is x = ± 2 Why did I need the "±" ("plus-minus") sign on the 2 when I took the square root of the 4? Because it might have been a positive 2 or a negative 2 that was squared to get that 4 in the original equation.

hi make a fraction what is task? clean the house right (one house ) number of house/ the hour they took so for example for max it would be number of the house divided by number of hours she took to clean the house

Nnesha (nnesha):

\[\rm maggie + \max = \frac{ 1 }{ x}\] and then set both fraction equa lto 1/x x = number of hours if the clean the same one house together

@Gabylovesyou let me know if you have any question about that ^^ :=))
