HELP PLS FOR MEDAL AND FAN.You buy clothing at a sale you buy sneakers 2/3 of their original price $60. A sweater 7/10 of it s price $45, and a jacket 5/6 of its original price $45 dollars. How much money spent, how much money saved, and what fraction of the original price saved?

OpenStudy (taiofchi):

So confusing......

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would you like an explanation or the straight answer?

OpenStudy (taiofchi):

both if u can...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So let's start with the sneakers. You spend two thirds of 60 dollars. We need to split 60 into three parts.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

three sets of 20

OpenStudy (taiofchi):

Ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You only spend two thirds of 60, (two sets of 20) so how much were the sneakers after the sale price?

OpenStudy (taiofchi):

The book sn't say.....

OpenStudy (taiofchi):

doesn't*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It would be $40

OpenStudy (taiofchi):

Oh that 2/3 of 60 is 40 because 1/3 of 60 is 20, so 20 * 2 = 40

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the sneakers were $60, but had a final price of $40. You saved $20.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes that's the right process

OpenStudy (taiofchi):

So what about the 2nd one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The sweater. You pay 7/10, so divide the cost of the sweater ($45) by 10.

OpenStudy (taiofchi):

3.2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not quite.

OpenStudy (taiofchi):

hmmmmmmmmmmm 7/450?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An easier way to divide an odd number by ten is to split it into two parts and divide those. What is 40 divided by 10?

OpenStudy (taiofchi):

4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good, now what is 5 divided by ten?

OpenStudy (taiofchi):

0.5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When you add 4 and .5 together, it's 4.5.

OpenStudy (taiofchi):

Ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You pay 7/10 of the cost, so 7 sets of 4.5. Multiply 4.5 by 7.

OpenStudy (taiofchi):

31.5......

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's right...so you pay $31.50 for the sweater. When you subtract $31.50 from 45, what do you get?

OpenStudy (taiofchi):

13.5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct. That's how much you saved on the sweater.

OpenStudy (taiofchi):

Ok thanks there is one more

OpenStudy (taiofchi):

well you've done enough ill do the last one myself

OpenStudy (taiofchi):

Thanks alot man!
