Will medal+fan!! can some one help and explain this to me please! simplify: 2(3y – 4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To simplify what do you think would be the first step?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um isolate the y?

OpenStudy (oost):

yea are you trying to simplify it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, our goal is to isolate it in the end... First we work form the outside......... which means to?

OpenStudy (oost):

never mind Julia has it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

chocolove22?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

disruptive property??

OpenStudy (mrnood):

No - this is an expression - not an equation you cannot isolate y the best you can do is expand (distribute) the 2, but I would normally consider that the expression is already in its 'simplest' form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes! so we would distribute the....?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

numbers in the peranthasis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you distribute the 2, you multiply everything in the parentheses by 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2*3 2*4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes! so what would our ending answer be?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

NO |dw:1452638092896:dw| you forgot the y and the minus sign
