Find the length and depth: A rectangular prism has a surface area of 198 square feet, a height of 6 feet, and a lateral surface area of 144 square feet.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Problem is oddly stated. "surface area of 198 square feet," "lateral surface area of 144 square feet." Does that mean that only the 2 long sides, the top and the bottom of the prism are included in the "lateral surface area of 144 square feet?" I'd strong suggest sketching this prism and labelling as much as possible with the given dimensions. Develop formulas for the area of the 2 sides, for the top and bottom, and for the ends. Suggest using variables such as L (length), W (width), D (depth / height).

Lateral area meaning all faces but the two bases.
