OpenStudy (ndeherro):

Factor x3 – 2x2 – 16x + 32 = 0, given that 2 is a zero. (x – 2)(x2 – 16) = 0 (x – 2)(x – 4)(x + 4) = 0 (x + 2)(x – 4)(x + 4) = 0

OpenStudy (ndeherro):

I"M SO CONFUSED!!!!

OpenStudy (ndeherro):

uh... i'm not sure. I'm completely brain dead right now.

OpenStudy (ndeherro):

Oh okay. and then?

OpenStudy (dan815):

okay so think about this question x*y=0 this is true when either x is 0 or y is 0 as anything times 0 = 0

OpenStudy (ndeherro):

yeah I know that but how do I factor this?

OpenStudy (dan815):

okay u know that 2 is a zero.. what does that mean?

OpenStudy (ndeherro):

factoring?

OpenStudy (dan815):

okay that means that if u split this upto into 2 brackets when x=2 then one of the brackets goes to 0

OpenStudy (dan815):

(x-2) (......) =0 ^--------- so u know this bracket has to exist

OpenStudy (dan815):

when u put in 2 for x that bracket goes to zero so this equation will be true because no matter what u put in the other bracket... the product of these 2 brackets will be 0 when x=2

OpenStudy (ndeherro):

OH okay.

OpenStudy (dan815):

do u really understand

OpenStudy (ndeherro):

It came back to me. I remember now.

OpenStudy (dan815):

okay good
