I think the keywords here are \(\text{compounds}\) and \(\text{reactions}\). Remember in chemistry that when some elements or compounds mix with other elements/compounds, they can react. A lot of time they change temperature or color, emit an odor, or form bubbles and precipitate. These are indicators of chemical reactions, and thus would mean that they store chemical energy. A good example would be a battery. It stores chemical energy from certain elements and then converts that energy into electrical energy.
