Integers on a Number Line Medal and stuff What is |–12|?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

absolute value is just distance... how far is -12 from 0?

OpenStudy (rippeh):

12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's the answer

anytime you have absolute value, just ask yourself "how far?". Distance is always positive, just in different directions. One town is 12 miles north while another is 12 miles south. they are both 12 away... distance is the same, direction is different. Absolute value only carea about the distance.

It is 12 since the || makes it positive unless it is like 12 - |6| making it 6 - 12 making it -6 since you need 6 more to subtract to make it zero since || makes it positive unless subtracted from outside the || you aren't going to find a negative number. I hope this helps you understand this more. Medal?
