Lewis - Meriwether Lewis, also known as Lewis, was the Captain of Army volunteers in 1803, right after the Louisiana Purchase. President Jefferson sent him and his close Friend William Clark on their journey. This quest took 2 years, from May 1804 to September 1806.

Clark – William Clark, also known as Clark became the co-captian of the Expedition. This is because his good friend Lewis saw that his abilities as draftsman and frontiersman were very strong. Together they collected a diverse military Corps of Discovery that would be able to undertake a two-year journey to the great ocean.

Sacagawea - Sacagawea was forced into marriage with French-Canadian trapper around age 12. In November 1804, she was invited to join the Lewis and Clark expedition as a Shoshone interpreter. After leaving the expedition, she died at Fort Manuel in what is now Kenel, South Dakota, circa 1812.

York - York was a slave known for his participation with the Lewis and Clark Expedition. He was a slave to William Clark. York performed hard manual labor without pay, but participated as a full member of the expedition.
