Basic Trig Help Please, Seeking step by step advice

OpenStudy (thatawayz):

Look at the figure...|dw:1452804288272:dw|

OpenStudy (thatawayz):

if tan= 11/r and cos = r/s what is the value of sin x

OpenStudy (thatawayz):

@LegendarySadist

OpenStudy (thatawayz):

we are trying to find the value of sin x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well based on the sine and tan values, can you label the sides of the triangle?

OpenStudy (thatawayz):

Thats whats confusing me, im at a complete loss on this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If tan is opp/adj and we have tan = 11/r, what are 11 and r?

OpenStudy (thatawayz):

ahh

OpenStudy (thatawayz):

so oppisite is 11 and adjacent is r

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, and then just do the same thing with the cos values they gave you and you should be able to label all of the sides of the triangle.

OpenStudy (thatawayz):

okay, all three sides labled. and one quick question, this is free help right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

? What do you mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not charging you, if that's what you're asking. No one on openstudy will

OpenStudy (thatawayz):

ahh, like that is not pay for help, its all free

OpenStudy (freckles):

unless you hit that "get an expert explanation. ask a qualified helper." button

OpenStudy (thatawayz):

ohhhh, i see, thanks freckles

OpenStudy (thatawayz):

okay, anywat, i solve for sin x now right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right, just use the old opp/hyp to get it

OpenStudy (thatawayz):

so would it be sin 11r

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well what are the opposite and hypotenuse values for the triangle?

OpenStudy (thatawayz):

because the other three answers apear to be cos based

OpenStudy (thatawayz):

oppisite is 11 and hypoteneuse is r

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The opposite value is correct, but the hypotenuse is s, not r.

OpenStudy (thatawayz):

ahhh so 11/s

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, that would be it. sin = 11/s

OpenStudy (thatawayz):

awesome thanks for the help @LegendarySadist

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ye no problem (:

OpenStudy (thatawayz):

hi @zepdrix how are you today?
