Find the factors and the zeros. x^2+2x-24

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

Well, what multiplies to -24 and adds up to 2?

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

-4 and 6, right?

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

(x-4)(x+6) -> x^2+6x-4x-24 -> x^2+2x-24 yep! So, then set each of these to equal 0. x-4=0 x=4 x+6=0 x=-6 -6 and 4 are the zeros :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow your good at this how did you find it and how to i get the factors?

OpenStudy (studentchaitrali):

if the eqn were ax^2+bx +c =0 then multiply axc... now you have to simplify the coeff of x in such a manner that the seperated values also multiply to give axc. Writing factors of axc helps....

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

You just find what multiplies to -24 and adds to +2...easy peasy :)
