What is the value of the function when x = -2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i will medal and fan you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Serenity74

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@freckles

OpenStudy (serenity74):

what do you think?

OpenStudy (serenity74):

It's not even on the graph so what do you think will the answer be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im not sure what to do honestly

OpenStudy (serenity74):

It would be undefined since it's of the graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you sure?

OpenStudy (serenity74):

i am pretty sure

OpenStudy (serenity74):

95% sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

even tho when you look at the graph the line happens to be on -2?

OpenStudy (serenity74):

X=-2 is what we are looking for The graph however isn't intersecting in x=-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so we wouldnt have to find a slope or something?

OpenStudy (serenity74):

we would but it was asking for the point it would be at x=-2 and since the graph isn't intersecting we wouldn't be able to find the slope of it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so my answer is undefined?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont get that at all but okey.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

@imqwerty HELP needed here

imqwerty (imqwerty):

the value of y coordinate corresponding to \(x=-2\) on the graph is the value of the function at \(x=-2\) |dw:1452813688998:dw|

OpenStudy (serenity74):

but wouldn't it be undefined since it's OFF of the graph?

imqwerty (imqwerty):

what do you mean "it's OFF of the graph" ?

OpenStudy (serenity74):

X=-2 ISN'T even on the graph so you can't find the value for it.

OpenStudy (serenity74):

The graph intersects at x=-3 so value for x=-3 would be 0.

imqwerty (imqwerty):

yes x=-3 will be 0 so according to you the function's value will be defined only when we take x=-3 and it will be 0 there but this is not correct well the \(y\) axis represents the function \(f(x)\) and the x axis represents the values of x now they ask what is the value of function when x is -2 so just locate the corresponding value of y when x=-2 this value of y will be the value of function when x is -2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that makes so much more sence thank you so much so my answer is x=-2

imqwerty (imqwerty):

:) well no your answer will be the value of corresponding \(y\) coordinate on the graph when the x coordinate will be -2 |dw:1452814330977:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OHHHHHHH. OKAY I GET IT NOW.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much really

imqwerty (imqwerty):

:) np
