A system of equations is given below: y = 4x − 3 2x + 7y = 41 Which of the following steps could be used to solve by substitution? A. 2(y = 4x − 3) + 7y = 41 B. 4x − 3 = 2x + 7y C. 2x + 7(4x − 3) = 41 D. 2(y = 4x − 3)

Can someone explain to me how solving with substitution works?

pooja195 (pooja195):

It's basically plugging in a given value in place of a varible in another equation So... We are already given the value of y take the value of y that is given and plug it in equation 2 in place of y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What would I be substituting here? I do not see where they say the value of y

pooja195 (pooja195):

"y = 4x − 3" It tells you what y ='s

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh my apologies i didnt realize it said y= , i thought it said y- i completely overlooked that

pooja195 (pooja195):

haha it's alright!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you think you could help with one more?

pooja195 (pooja195):

Well i can after you tell me what u got for this one :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got C

pooja195 (pooja195):

Good job! :) ok post the next one
