OpenStudy (please_help_meh):

If the polynomial expression (mx + 4)(2x – 5) is simplified to -6x2 + 23x – 20, what is the value of m? A. -6 B. -3 C. 3 D. 6

OpenStudy (freckles):

you could expand the whole thing (a+b)(c+d) a(c+d)+b(c+d) ac+ad+bc+bd

OpenStudy (mathmale):

I reccommend that you actually multiply the two binomials together, obtaining four terms. See the suggestions given you by freckles, above. When finished, compare the first term of your expansion to the first term on the right, to figure out the value of m.

OpenStudy (freckles):

I will show you another way after you have expanded and compare both expressions to find m you can show me your expanded version of your expression (mx+4)(2x-5) if you want and I can check it
