OpenStudy (brekathleen):

Compare and contrast gravitational force and strong nuclear force. Describe two ways they're similar and two ways they are different.

OpenStudy (farcher):

This an interesting question in that answering about the differences is relatively easy but I do think that that is the case for similarities. One similarity is that they both depend on the separation of the particles. Another is that both forces are charge independent. Differences include the fact that the gravitational force, which is an inverse square law force), is a long range force whereas the strong nuclear force is a short range force acting over only a few fwmtometres. The gravitational force is always attractive whereas the strong nuclear force is attractive for larger separations but repulsive for short separations.

OpenStudy (gebooors):

Gravitational force is much weaker compared to strong force. Gravitational force makes things to fall towards to center of Earth, keeps Moon orbiting Earth and planets to circular motion around Sun. Strong nuclar force holds protons and neutrons in a nucleus and is stronger than repulsive force of two proton.
