Sometimes it can be more convenient to round one or both of the times being manipulated, do the addition/subtraction, then adjust the answer.

Instead of adding 4 hours and 59 minutes, add 5 hours, and then subtract off 1 minute.

4 hours 59 minutes + 1 minute = 5 hours
