how do land areas of Cuba and Brazil compare? a. Cuba is over 700 miles long b. Cuba is about half the size of Brazil c. The countries are about the same size d. Brazil is about eight times the size of Cuba

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know this isn't math but someone please help me

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

do you know that area of a rectangle - for example is equal length time width yes ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not this is not math it social studies

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Look up online the area of the two countries. What are they?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is say this isn't math is social studies

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so what you know here that a, Cuba is over 700 mile long - so this not is a comparation of countrys - yes b. that Cuba is about half size of Brazil - so this is a comparation but not exactly c. the countrys as about the same size - this is same b. d. Brazil is about eight time size Cuba - so i think this will be the right answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Cuba: 42,426 mi^2 Brazil: 3,288,000 mi^2

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Maybe you meant to write that Brazil is about eighty (80) times larger, not eight (8).

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

was my pleasure @JessicaH123

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Are you sure that choice D is written correctly?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathstudent55 the question said is eight times not eighty times

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

None of the choices make sense then.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

a. Stating just the length of Cuba is not a comparison. b. Cuba is not half the area of Brazil; it's approximately one-eightieth. c. The countries are not approximately the same size. Brazil is much, much larger. d. Brazil is not about eight times the area of Cuba. It's eighty times the area of Cuba. As you can see, none of the answers make sense.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathstudent55 well whatever i don't care

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

\(\dfrac{area~of~Brazil}{area~of~Cuba} = \dfrac{3,287,357~mi^2}{42,426~mi^2} = 77.5\)
