Why is it important for scientists to use the scientific method?

the scientific method or the experimental method is important, in order to test the validity of the hypothesis or the conjectures which are underlying to the new scientific theories. For example, the experiment of deflection of the sun rays , has been an important test for the General Theory of Relativity
