Please Help Me Danny made a mistake in the following problem. The mistake was made in Line ___. Only input the number of the first incorrect line. Line 1 21 + 35 ÷ 7 + 6(2) Line 2 21 + 5 + 6(2) Line 3 21 + 11(2) Line 4 21 + 22 Line 5 43 is my answer right or no I think its line 2 because he forgot to do 6(2)
I think you're right, because the parentheses need to be simplified first according to the PEMDAS rule.
@a1234 i know but would the 2 in the parentheses still be 2
No, it would be multiplied by 6. 21 + 35 ÷ 7 + 6(2) 21 + 35 ÷ 7 + 12 21 + 5 + 12 = 38
oh ok so it would be line 1
It's Line 2. Line 1 is just the initial problem, right?
it was a typo i meant line 2
Ok. I agree; it's Line 2.
is this correct 3-24÷8+4^2 3-24÷8+16 3-3+16 =16
@a1234
There is nothing wrong with line 2. Just because he did not do 6(2) yet, it doesn't mean he made a mistake. He could do 6(2) on the next line. The first mistake is on line 3 where he added 5 + 6 together instead of multiplying 6(2) first. In the order of operations, multiplication comes first, so after line 2, he should have Line 3: 21 + 5 + 12
BTW, the parentheses in 6(2) simply mean multiplication. They do not come first in PEMDAS.
it was line 2 i got the question right
Ok. I'm glad you got it correct, but I don't agree with the answer.
You can do this problem one step at a time. My line 2 below is exactly like the problem's line 2 and my solution is correct. Line 2 is correct. It's line 3 of the given problem that has an error. Line 1 21 + 35 ÷ 7 + 6(2) Line 2 21 + 5 + 6(2) Line 3 21 + 5 + 12 Line 4 26 + 12 Line 5 38
