Put the computer in a cool place that allows good air circulation.  Use an OS that doesn't require a GUI.  Ideally, the program should be written in Assembler, but C would be more practical.  Lock the process into the processor.  Generous RAM allows more I/O buffering.

If you're going to overclock, you better over cool too.  And if you want to go into this, the motherboard's bus speed, memory access speeds would need to increase and you may as well go to SSD too.
