if you have two pens and take away 1 pen, how many pens do you have ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have 1 pen

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. 2-1 is 1 remember you are doing \[ \frac{2}{2}- \frac{1}{2}= \frac{2-1}{2} \] you found 2-1 is 1 so the answer will be \[ \frac{1}{2} \]
