Geometry!!! @danJS

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

OpenStudy (danjs):

k, what are the ratio again for 30 - 60 - 90

OpenStudy (danjs):

30 - 60 - 90 1 - root(3) - 2 http://www.regentsprep.org/regents/math/algtrig/att2/ltri30.htm

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

i tried to find the measure of the larger length of the larger triangle and got \(\frac{9\sqrt{3}}{2}\)

OpenStudy (danjs):

|dw:1453335041782:dw|

OpenStudy (danjs):

i would start with the variable triangle first and complete that one

OpenStudy (danjs):

1 - root(3) - 2 across from 30 is the 1, acroos from 60 is root3 times , and the side across from 90 is 2 times |dw:1453335160104:dw|

OpenStudy (danjs):

now you have an x in the triangle that gave you a number to use, and you can compare sides and relate that 2x and 9 by the correct ratio

OpenStudy (danjs):

the 2x side is across from the 60 angle, and the 9 is across from the 90 angle 30 - 60 - 90 1 - root(3) - 2

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

i don't understand this question at all!!

OpenStudy (danjs):

ok i just first applied the side ratios for the bottom triangle, x - x*root(3) - 2x see that

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

ok

OpenStudy (danjs):

then you can use the same rule in the top triangle, now the long side is 2x and the hypotenuse is 9..

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

then how would i use 2x ?

OpenStudy (danjs):

you can try to remember those short cut formulas to relate sides, but it is just using the ratio of sides to get them,,, LL = 1/2 * H *root(3) long leg is half the hypotenuse *root3 2x = 1/2 * 9 * root3

OpenStudy (danjs):

x = 9/4 * root3

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

gimme a moment please

OpenStudy (danjs):

|dw:1453336138297:dw|

OpenStudy (danjs):

then you can use the short side and long side if you want, 1 - root(3) - 2 long side is root(3) times the short side 2x = (9/2) * root3 , same answer

OpenStudy (danjs):

the hard part is just to remember the side ratio 30-60-90 1 - root(3) - 2 brb |dw:1453336344341:dw|

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

i am just looking over the work. i just need a couple more minutes

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

why did you do 2x?

OpenStudy (danjs):

from the bottom triangle, that is the hypotenuse and is 2*short side, or 2x now in this triangle it is the long side

OpenStudy (danjs):

you can fill in the short side quick, it is half the hypotenuse, or 9/2

OpenStudy (danjs):

then the long side is root3 times the short side long side - 2x short side - 9/2 2x is root(3) * 9/2

OpenStudy (danjs):

you will get it, just need a couple practice probs to get the side proportions down

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

how did you get 9root3/4?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

nvm

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

i got it

OpenStudy (danjs):

1- filled in the short side as half the hypotenuse - 9/2 2- remember the ratio for sides, 1 - root(3) - 2 short = long*root3

OpenStudy (danjs):

kk

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

thx!
