What is the sum of the first eight terms of a geometric series whose first term is 3 and whose common ratio is 1/2 ?

it would be 3, 6, 12, 24, 48 .... so just keep going and add the first 8
First *(ratio)^(term number) 3*(1/2)^t
if t=0, you get 3, t=1 you get 3*1/2 , t=2 you get 3* 1/2 * 1/2 so on...
each next term is half of the previous term
3, 3/2, 3/4, 3/8 .....
