Seeing as how the pattern goes from positive to negative, you can assume you are multiplying by a negative integer. I find the easiest way to figure out these problems is find the rate of change first. Which, since this pattern is multiplication, you can either figure out what -144 has to be multiplied by to get 864. Or, what I do, is you can divide 864 by -144. You should get -6 as a rate of change. Then just multiply -4 by -6 and your answer should be 24! Hope that helps(:
