How would smoke or pollution affect the process of getting oxygen into your eyes? Choose the best explanation from the choices below. Question options: The dust and smoke fill the air creating a lower concentration of oxygen in the air. Therefore, diffusion will not be able to occur because there is not a big enough concentration gradient between the amount of oxygen in the eye and in the atmosphere. Not enough oxygen can get into the eye and can cause the eye to dry out. When the levels of smoke or pollution increase it causes your eyes to blink more as a defense mechanism to all of the dust. The extra blinking actually dries out the eyes causing irritation. When there is lots of pollution in the air, the levels of carbon dioxide in the air decrease and then neither diffusion or osmosis can occur causing the eyes to dry out.

Please read the scenario and then determine the best hypothesis for the given scenario. Sally needed contact lenses, but after reading how our corneas need oxygen, she was nervous about putting the lenses on her eyes. She planned an investigation where she put an oxygen detecting instrument inside a test tube that contained no oxygen and placed different contact lenses over the top of the test tubes to determine if they let oxygen in. Question options: If a soft contact lens is placed over the test tube, then oxygen will enter the tube because soft contact lenses are semi-permeable allowing oxygen to dissolve through them. If different contact lenses are tested, then it will affect the amount of oxygen that is let into the test tubes because some of them are semi-permeable. If diffusion is occurring then it must mean that the lenses are doing their job of letting oxygen in. If eyes need oxygen, I would tell Sally to just wear glasses. Contact lenses are not safe.
